The duo went through zone after zone of Robotnik's baddies, eventually encountering the red one. After a fierce fight with Knuckles, Robotnik took the Master Emerald. However, thanks to Tails, the scientist's plot was destroyed once again.

Since then, the duo has met many more characters, including Sonic's "girlfriend," Amy Rose, the other echidna trapped inside the Master Emerald, Tikal, and Silver, a hedgehog with psychic abilities. Tails has also become personally attached to Sonic, and their friendship has not been short-lived.
